The Collings CJ-35SB German Spruce is a refined slope-shoulder acoustic inspired by the golden era of pre-war American flattop guitar design. Combining vintage-inspired construction with Collings’ world-renowned craftsmanship, this model delivers exceptional warmth, projection, balance, and dynamic response suited to both fingerstyle and powerful strumming styles.

This particular CJ-35SB features an upgraded German spruce top, prized for its stiffness, lightweight character, and tonal refinement. Slow-grown in cooler European climates, German spruce has long been favoured by fine bowed instrument makers for its responsiveness and complex overtone character. Paired with Honduran mahogany back and sides, the result is a rich and articulate acoustic voice with deep piano-like bass, focused mids, and clear full-bodied highs.

Inspired by pre-war acoustic designs from the 1930s and early 1940s, the CJ-35 incorporates a short 24 7/8" scale length and a specialised bracing system featuring three tone bars for enhanced note separation, balanced projection, and controlled dynamic response. The combination makes the CJ-35 remarkably versatile across a wide range of playing techniques and musical styles.
