The Gibson Murphy Lab 1958 Les Paul Standard Ultra Light Aged in Washed Cherry Sunburst is a painstakingly accurate recreation of one of the most sought-after vintage Les Paul models ever produced. Crafted by the Gibson Custom Shop and finished by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab, this reissue captures the feel, tone, and visual character of an original late-1950s Les Paul with remarkable authenticity.
Built using historically correct construction methods, the guitar features a lightweight one-piece mahogany body paired with a beautifully figured two-piece plain maple top, both assembled using hide glue for enhanced resonance and vintage accuracy. The chunky C-shaped mahogany neck delivers a substantial, comfortable feel that is ideal for expressive playing and effortless bending.
Unlike the ’59 models, the 1958 reissue features historically accurate narrow/tall frets, allowing more fingerboard wood to contribute to the tonal response. Combined with the Indian rosewood fretboard and long tenon neck joint, the result is exceptional sustain, warmth, and articulation.
Loaded with unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups, the guitar delivers authentic late-50s PAF-style tones with dynamic sensitivity, rich harmonics, and vintage clarity. The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged treatment adds subtle checking, hardware patina, and gentle wear for the look and feel of a well-preserved original from Gibson’s Golden Era.
This is a premium Custom Shop instrument designed for collectors, vintage enthusiasts, and players seeking uncompromising historic accuracy and tone.
