The Friedman IR-J is the Jake E. Lee Signature dual-channel tube preamp — a complete Friedman amp rig distilled into a compact, pedalboard-friendly powerhouse. Inspired by the legendary JEL-100 and JEL-20 heads, the IR-J captures Jake’s unmistakable blend of ‘70s muscular tone and ‘80s high-gain aggression, delivering the punch, clarity, and harmonic complexity that define his iconic sound.

Powered by two high-voltage 12AX7 tubes, the IR-J isn’t simulating a Friedman circuit — it is one. Each channel offers full EQ control, volume, gain, boost, and bright options, while Channel 2 includes a two-position gain structure switch for switching between Plexi-style crunch and JCM-inspired drive. Both channels feature independent TS-style boost circuits with dedicated tone and volume controls — giving you up to four footswitchable tonal stages.

The onboard ultra-low-latency Impulse Response (IR) cabinet and power amp simulation provides studio-quality direct tones for live performance or recording. Developed with OwnHammer, it includes 18 premium Friedman cabinet IRs, and users can easily load their own via the included Friedman Editor software. The software also allows editing of Presence, Thump, and Low-Pass Filter parameters per channel for deep tonal refinement.

With full MIDI control, USB connectivity, and a programmable effects loop, the IR-J seamlessly integrates into any modern rig — whether you’re tracking in the studio, performing on stage, or practicing silently via the headphone output.
