Hofner originally produced violins and other stringed instruments for 43 years before producing classical concert guitars in 1930.
For the first 40 years, all guitars produced by Hofner were designed by Walter Höfner, the son of the company founder Karl Höfner. He is most famous for designing the Höfner 500/1 Violin (Beatle) Bass guitar.
