Supercool Pedals The Thneed Overdrive
The Thneed is a no-nonsense take on the legendary “transparent” overdrive—stripped of fussy charge pumps and multi–op-amp complexity—yet voiced to deliver the signature clarity, mid presence, and touch response players love.
Under the hood, it adds serious flexibility: four pairs of selectable clipping diodes plus a no-diode option, internal high/low gain modes, a bass “Unless” switch, and the choice of True Bypass or Buffered Bypass. Together, these options make the Thneed a powerful tone-shaping tool for even the fussiest pedalboard curator.
Clipping & Tone Options
The Thneed Overdrive features four pairs of selectable clipping diodes via internal DIP switches, plus a fifth “no diodes” option, letting you tailor the feel and breakup to your rig and playing style:
-
LED (Light Emitting Diode)
High volume boost with an open, crunchy, “amp-like” breakup. -
1N34A (Germanium)
Classic germanium warmth with a mid-forward, dynamic overdrive. -
BAT46 (Schottky)
Smoother, more compressed character with a slightly mid-scooped distortion texture. -
1N4148 (Silicon) – Default setting
A balanced option offering a mix of headroom and distortion, great all-rounder voice. -
No Diodes
Bypasses all clipping diodes for crunchy op-amp-only gain and a big volume boost—ideal for clean or treble-boost duties in front of an amp.
These internal clipping controls work alongside:
-
Internal Gain Mode Selector – switchable high/low gain modes
-
External “Unless” Bass Toggle – face-forward bass control to tighten or thicken the low end
