An exceptional 1935 Gibson Jumbo, representing one of the earliest and most important examples of Gibson's slope-shouldered jumbo acoustic design.

This guitar has the unmistakable appearance of a genuinely played vintage instrument, with extensive age and wear consistent with its history. Most importantly, it has received significant professional repair work over its lifetime and is a superb playing and sounding example today.

Australian luthier Jeff Mallia carried out a number of major repairs several years ago. Jeff has recently provided detailed notes clarifying exactly what work he performed, which we have documented below for the benefit of the guitar's next owner.

His work included re-repairing an earlier top repair near the treble side of the bridge, replacing a non-original bridge plate with a composite plate, repairing and cleating top cracks behind the bridge plate, and repairing a hairline crack on the bass side.

Jeff also made a new period-correct Brazilian rosewood bridge, reproducing the original screw and pearl-dot positions associated with this period of Gibson production.

The guitar had undergone a neck reset prior to Jeff receiving it. Evidence of that earlier work includes a plugged access hole in the fingerboard beyond the 15th fret and a previously cracked heel. Jeff cosmetically improved the appearance of the plugged hole but did not perform the neck reset; the current neck set is as the guitar came to him.

For improved tuning performance, Jeff extensively modified a set of Waverly 16:1 tuners to match the footprint and mounting holes of the original Grover 6:1 clipped-plate tuners. This involved reshaping and adding brass to the Waverly plates before replating them. The modified Waverlys remain fitted to the guitar. The original Grover tuners are included with the guitar.

This is an important pre-war Gibson with a well-documented repair history and enormous vintage character. The major work has been undertaken with careful consideration for the guitar's period construction while maintaining it as a highly playable musical instrument.
