The Waterloo WL-14 Scissortail is a vintage-inspired acoustic guitar that pays tribute to the rare “Oriole” guitars produced in Kalamazoo during the early 1940s. Handmade in Austin, Texas, the Scissortail blends Waterloo’s dry, woody tonal character with enhanced projection and focus thanks to its maple back and sides and vintage-style X-bracing.

Named after the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher native to the Texas Hill Country, the WL-14 Scissortail offers a highly responsive and articulate voice ideal for fingerstyle, blues, folk, old-time, and Americana playing. The solid spruce top delivers clarity and dynamic sensitivity, while the solid maple back and sides add punch, focus, and strong note separation.

Distinctive vintage-inspired appointments include tortoise-style binding, tigerstripe celluloid pickguard, semi-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and a period-correct Scissortail headstock decal. The prominent V-shaped mahogany neck provides an authentic vintage-style playing feel, while the short scale length enhances warmth and comfortable playability.
